A case of falsely elevated D-dimer result

Abstract Objectives Heterophile antibodies can cause interferences in immunometric assays. While many tests are shown to be affected by interference from heterophilic antibodies, the D-dimer test has rarely been reported affected. With this case, we report an elevated measurement which was not compatible with clinical presentation. Case presentation A 41-year-old patient who admitted hospital heart palpitations had a elevation irrelevant his condition. measurements were repeated new samples directly and after being treated blocking tube two different reagent lots of latex-based automated immunoturbidimetric assay immunoturbidometric assay. values normalized (0–0.5 mg/L) when used lot on same instrument or measured method chemistry analyzer. After treatment HBT, all revealed results within reference ranges. Conclusions The presence heterophile sample should considered value that is encountered. Apart patient’s HA’s causing false results, sporadic susceptibility reagents also kept mind as possibility.
